Oracle joins forces with AT&T, NavLink and Drutt Networks to provide a pan European, end-to-end wireless hosting service

[June 19th 2001] Oracle, NavLink and Drutt Networks have entered into a commercial cooperation agreement to deliver value-added wireless applications to Oracle customers, based on the wireless capabilities of Oracle9i Application Server.

Future plans call for the European Wireless Hosting Service to connect any correctly-equipped Oracle customer or partner in Europe via the AT&T Global Network Services network to NavLink’s most appropriate managed hosting facilities, using the Drutt Networks’ mobile capabilities to execute the service over any mobile operator.

As the convergence of fixed and wireless Internet becomes a reality, corporations are looking for innovative solutions to integrate wireless technology into their overall eBusiness strategy. With Oracle’s, NavLink’s and Drutt Networks’ European wireless service, customers will be offered flexible outsourced hosting scenarios for their overall wireless strategies.

These Wireless Hosting Services are aimed at enterprises that want to give their workforce, partners and customers mobile access to office and / or back-end applications whilst outsourcing the provision, hosting and management of the total infrastructure. They also target enterprises that purchase and operate Oracle9i  Application Server and its Wireless Option and outsource the provision and operation of the mobile infrastructure.

Oracle provides a complete software infrastructure for the Internet’s next generation of intelligent and collaborative wireless application servers. Oracle 9iAS Wireless Edition is a key product that serves content dynamically to any mobile device and thus enables applications to be developed independently from the device type.

"I'm very pleased to launch this Europe-wide wireless hosting platform", said Sergio Giacoletto Oracle EVP EMEA. "It will boost the adoption of wireless solutions all over Europe, and thereby accelerate the adoption of our wireless technology. The key benefit is that it allows our customers to understand and easily implement wireless functions that enhance and transform their core businesses. Oracle is working with NavLink and Drutt Networks to provide wireless access to their business applications."

NavLink, a leading Managed Service Provider, recently launched the Wireless Infrastructure service part of its Managed eSourcing portfolio. The service delivers seamless, end-to-end, managed wireless services. It is also a ready-to-use service for basic office applications allowing users to access messaging, calendar and directory information directly from WAP-enabled devices. “The objective is to connect any customer with a GSM compliant mobile device from the closest AT&T remote access point into NavLink’s most appropriate managed hosting facility, with over 50 secure remote access points across Europe serviced through AT&T global network.” said Jon Stretch General Manager of AT&T Business EMEA.

"When Concert, the global venture of AT&T and BT invested in NavLink, we firmly believed that NavLink‘s portfolio of value added services would fully leverage both Concert's infrastructure and AT&T's remote access service and network. This new project will fulfil the potential of this partnership. We are able to serve the Internet outsourcing needs of global enterprises and offer European turnkey solutions for data delivery via wireless devices", said George Chammas, co-President and CFO of NavLink. "Our industry proven experience in network integration, high-end hosting and managed services, positions us as a premium partner with AT&T, Oracle and Drutt Networks for the implementation and management of such complex solutions".

“NavLink is at the crossroads of fixed and wireless technology. We are uniquely positioned to converge our customer’s eBusiness and mBusiness platforms, enabling our customers to deploy any application regardless of the channel of access” said Laurent Delifer, co-President and COO of NavLink.

Drutt Networks brings its strong mobile expertise to the equation. "This initiative offers a complete end-to-end solution to the mobile enterprise market. It will cut the cost and the lead time for enterprises wishing to provide their customers and employees with mobile services", said Björn Svennesson, Vice President Business Development, Drutt Corporation.
