WAP services now available with on screen graphics

[October 9th 200] Localmed, an online medical information service, has launched the first WAP site which uses graphics extensively. The site, which is designed for mobile phone users, offers a graphically illustrated CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation/Kiss of Life) first aid course. This service has been developed in conjunction with BT Cellnet to run on their WAP phones.

Access to the first aid information is via the Genie WAP portal, available on BT Cellnet mobile Internet phones. The CPR information is split into three parts. The first section is a graphic-rich intensive training module that tells you step-by-step how to save a life in the event of a heart attack or similar medical situation. There are graphic demonstrations on mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, cardiac massage and putting the patient in the recovery position.

The next section is a quick reminder of the 'ABC' of CPR for use in emergency situations, and finally, a refresher course so that you can refresh your training whenever required.

Simon Cohen, CEO of Localmed said, "Our research at a local hospital demonstrated the positive benefits of WAP training over and above normal verbal instruction. The graphic illustrations are not just good to look at, they may help save a life."

Pete Richardson, sales and marketing director, BT Cellnet, said, "Localmed has demonstrated the many possibilities of WAP and the creative use of illustrations took us by surprise. We hope other companies will push at the boundries of WAP site design and explore the potential of mobile data communications."
