To demonstrate how easy it would be to 'port' existing banking applications across to mobile phones, software specialist, Masabi, has created its own secure mobile Java app.
The software developed by Masabi could enable banks' customers to securely view account details, statements and balances and make transactions, the firm reckons.
Tom Godber, Masabi CTO reckons building a viable mass-market mobile banking application requires "a combination of usability and security skills and above all the ability to deliver these on the lowest common denominator handsets."
The outfit wants financial institutions to trust it to deliver secure transactions to mobile phones.
Meanwhile, here at Mobile Insight, we are still waiting for a method whereby a mobile phone can be readily turned into a portable credit card transaction authorisation system.
It would be ideal for outside events where land lines are unobtainable and ATMs have giant queues.
