Opera in major tie-up with Kong Zhong

A new version of its web and wap browser, Kong Zhong Opera 2.0, should dramatically increase Opera's global footprint. The company has just released this mobile browser specially constructed for China's leading content provider, Kong Zhong. The browser is effectively made available for absolutely nothing to millions of Chinese mobile phone users. It has built in support for China Mobile's [the dominant mobile operator] cmnet (web) and cmwap (wap) services. These link directly into China Mobile's competitive GPRS monthly tariffs.  The two companies hope that by offering the new browser – based on Opera's Mini 4 platform, users will be encouraged to visit KongZhong's mobile portals – Kong.net and Kong.cn. These offer a wide variety of news and content and includes the official Chinese NBA web site. Curiously Kong Zhong says it also offers colour ring-back tones (CRBTs). Mobile Software Insight has absolutely no idea how those might work. Significantly, Opera currently claims to be the only supplier that can offer a browser for absolutely any mobile device.
