[February 21st 2000] The first global, vendor-independent, wireless development community, AnywhereYouGo.com, goes live today. This much needed
'one-stop' resource provides the latest news, tools, community and other facilities vital to businesses developing applications using WAP, Bluetooth
and Web Clipping. The company opens with headquarters in Dallas and London, and plans to add operations in Helsinki and Tokyo later this year.
"Developers have repeatedly told us that it's too time-consuming to find the information needed to develop applications that work on multiple wireless
data platforms. With the launch of AnywhereYouGo.com we've solved that problem, whilst giving handset and equipment manufacturers the single best
way to tap the global developer community. By meeting the needs of
developers, IT managers and the wireless industry, we're helping fuel the growth of wireless applications," said Lee Wright, CEO of AnywhereYouGo.com.
This new venture follows a merger with UK-based WAPtastic.com, founded by management consultant James Pearce. The site has quickly established itself
as a valuable hub for the WAP development community.
"In just six months, WAPtastic.com has become the leading independent WAP resource on the Web, with an audience that includes developers and IT
managers from more than 60 countries. The launch of AnywhereYouGo.com provides an ideal opportunity to substantially expand WAPtastic's content and
geographic reach", adds James Pearce, UK Director for AnywhereYouGo.com, who'll be heading up its European operation from London.
"By covering wireless development across multiple protocols, devices and continents, AnywhereYouGo.com makes it easier for developers to focus on what
ultimately matters - application development and deployment."
The wireless development hub also addresses another challenge facing the industry - the shortage of trained wireless developers. According to a new
survey amongst developers and IT managers, conducted by WAPtastic, 86% of respondents say they plan to 'cross- train' Internet developers in order to
meet increasing demand for wireless skills. AnywhereYouGo.com will play an important role by linking developers with IT decision-makers.
AnywhereYouGo.com is being launched by US-based Internet business consultant Lee Wright and People | Design | Technology - the team that has provided
strategic direction for leading e-commerce sites, and whose research and analysis has appeared in many US business and Internet magazines.
The firm's staff comprises technologists and developers, information designers, project managers, technical writers, and distance-learning experts
drawn from KPMG, PricewaterhouseCoopers and EDS.
The community will provide the latest Internet applications and telecoms news, with up-to-the-minute news feeds, directories, tutorials, discussion
forums, a career center, e-commerce opportunities and a host of other valuable resources. The site will enable application developers, IT decision
makers, business developers and marketeers to share ideas, test concepts, locate resources, pursue career opportunities and learn how to use new tools
and technologies through online training.
