Mviva
announces content for summer launch
[June
16th 2000] Mviva, a
mobile internet portal owned by The Carphone Warehouse and AOL Europe, have
announced details of its first wave of content partners covering a wide spectrum
of services and commerce. The
announcement introduces Mviva as a comprehensive service, which will offer
information, e-commerce and other content such as news, sports, travel, weather,
games, TV, cinema and theatre listings, reviews and mobile on-line transactions
(including gaming, auctions, share trading, CDs and tickets). Choosing
from a list of well known companies, Mviva customers in the UK will have mobile
on-line access to a wide range of different services from businesses such as
Abbey National, TD Waterhouse, CNN, Boxman, Yellow Pages, ebookers.com,
Sports.com, Eurobet, Loot and Lastminute.com, all at the push of a button.
The Mviva service will be free to customers who will only pay for the
call charges. In addition, via a
strategic alliance announced with AOL Europe (‘AOL’), customers will be able
to access services provided by AOL such as email and AOL instant messenger.
The service will be known as “Mviva – powered by AOL”. To
be launched through Carphone Warehouse stores in the UK in July, with roll out
to France, Spain, Holland and Sweden intended to follow later in the summer,
Mviva will be demonstrated and set up in-store, on customer’s internet enabled
mobile phones, by trained sales consultants.
Customers will receive help and advice on the services available and will
be able to personalise Mviva to receive information and services that are
relevant to their lifestyles when they need them. Max Alexander, Managing Director of Mviva comments “The Carphone Warehouse offers customers simple, impartial advice about the choice of handsets and networks. Mviva will offer customers a huge choice of top name content providers in the UK and Europe. Most importantly, our customers will be able to discuss the best choice of service and how it all works, with a trained sales consultant in the Carphone Warehouse stores across Europe”. Ian West, Chairman of Mviva comments “Market analysts estimate that with four years there will be around 220 million web-enabled mobile phones in Western Europe, compared to less than one million at the end of 1999 and that by the end of 2004, almost half of all mobile phone traffic will be data and internet. We believe that Mviva will lead the way in shopping and accessing information on the move, as it is designed with a complete focus on the customer’s needs”. Charles Dunstone, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of The Carphone Warehouse continues “The expertise and range of partners, coupled with our reputation for customer service, puts us in a unique position to advise customers on what the mobile Internet can offer and to identify the best package to suit their individual needs. Mviva will offer a great choice of quality mobile internet products and services, all of which can be personalised and adapted to individual requirements”. See who is on Mviva (content
