CinemaElectric launches Hollywood’s PocketCinema at 3GSM Congress

[February 14th 2002] CinemaElectric presents the future of the classic Hollywood motion picture industry model: making a finely crafted motion picture product, with a select group of artisans, that has global appeal… for a mobile audience.

Based at the Los Angeles Center Studios, one of the city’s newest and
best-equipped production facilities, CinemaElectric creates and distributes a unique form of downloadable digital cinema called PocketCinema, to be played on mobile phones, handheld computers, PDAs, desktop and future movie-playing personal electronics. This next-generation digital film studio currently has revenue deals to distribute their content in Asia, Europe and North America. Their mission is to build the world’s largest library of original Mobile Multimedia content, producing content in formats that make revenue today on existing networks, as well as on tomorrow’s high-speed networks.

Founded in 1999, the company has perfected its digital "film-factory"
process via it's patent-pending DENSE MEDIA FORMAT to create both
high-bandwidth and low-bandwidth content, in streaming as well as download models. The studio produces globally-focused full-motion movies, animations, still images, operator logos, picture messages, animated screen savers, enhanced message service content (EMS), and interactive narrative "comics" for a rapidly growing mobile content audience throughout the world.

"Mobile graphics and ringtone downloads are a (EURO) 9 billion+ business in Europe alone in 2001, as well as a multi-billion dollar business in Asia," states CEO James Robinson, "Yet this content is essentially created by a variety of local cottage industries. The mission of CinemaElectric is to create high-quality, global libraries of content, that can be sold in territory after territory, just as Hollywood filmed entertainment and music is today."

CinemaElectric currently has four channels of global content, ELECTRIC
CATWALK (fashion), ACTION! (extreme sports and action themes), MOVIE MESSAGES (multimedia greetings) and POCKET-GIRLS (beautiful women).

CinemaElectric’s content distribution partners include Akumiitti (Helsinki, Finland & Singapore), Casio (Dover, NJ), and Zingy.com (North America). It has technology partnerships with PacketVideo, Emblaze, ActiveSky, SolidStreaming, Togabi, Apple QuickTimeTV, TealPoint Software and MediaCentris.

CinemaElectric CEO and Founder, James F. Robinson, has combined his
experience as entrepreneur, writer and director to create CinemaElectric.
The award-winning independent feature, STILL BREATHING, starring Brendan Fraser, marked Robinson’s feature film debut in 1998. It was chosen as the premiere video release of Blockbuster Entertainment’s "Only at Blockbuster" rental program, becoming a top renter for that company in January 1999. It premiered on HBO in June 1999. Through his production company, White Lion Pictograph, Jim directed dramatic television films, documentaries, music videos, corporate films and commercials. His early work has been seen on PBS, The Disney Channel, The Discovery Network and a variety of European Networks.
