Dialogue demo WAP to email

[September 20th 1999] Dialogue Communications today announced the world's first successful transmission of an email to a WAP enabled mobile phone. This breakthrough extends the functionality of the mobile handset, which is set to become a core component of the wireless internet. The Dialogue solution enables users to view, reply and delete emails directly from the mobile handset. All actions can be stored in a mailbox for review at a later stage from a normal desktop PC.

"Nokia are delighted to see leading developers like Dialogue building solutions for the new WAP technology", said Nokia Mobile Phones wireless data manager Matt Chatterley. "Their software will make everyday communications like email even easier for our Nokia 7110 WAP phone users and we expect it will be available to a wide audience."

"The introduction of this new technology allows people on the move to use the mobile phone as the focal point for all their communications needs," said Dialogue Communications sales and marketing director Paul Griffiths. "It is a major step towards the ultimate goal of a mobile media phone capable of communicating both sound and vision."

Sheffield-based Dialogue Communications develops value-added data services for GSM mobile phone networks. Products include PageMail - the UK's leading software solution for ShortMessaging Service (SMS).
