Empower Releases Java-based Open Source WAP Gateway

[November 20th 2000] Empower Interactive Group Ltd, a wireless infrastructure software firm, is pleased to announce the release of its Java-based Empowered WAP Gateway to the open source community. After significant and successful testing with a major Scandinavian mobile operator, Empower will release the WAP Gateway for download this week.

Michael Ohr, CEO, comments: "The Empowered WAP gateway is the first of its kind. Its release to the open source community demonstrates two main points: 1) Empower's commitment to the wireless Internet and 2) The quality of our software engineers. Our software lowers the bar for Telecom Operators, ASPs, Portals, and Corporate enterprises to launch and host WAP services."

Service Providers will use the WAP Gateway to host WAP services. In addition software developers will use the Gateway to offer wireless access to customers and employees.
Features of the WAP Gateway include:
* Fully WAP 1.1 stack compliant
* Will support WTLS Security Layer (I & II)
* Ability to incorporate SSL Security Layer, thus providing
end to end encryption.
* Bearer support for UDP and (CSD and SMS in development)
* Platform Independent, runs on any JVM compliant OS
* Connects to any HTTP 1.0 or 1.1 host
* Full Event Logging

Empower will offer custom application development with the Empower Application Framework to Enterprise m-Business, and Operator customers as well as a support contract for
existing Empower customers.
