Infinite Technologies Ships WAP Server

[November 15th 1999] – At Comdex, Infinite Technologies announces the immediate availability of their latest product, the WAPlite Corporate WAP Server. This offering adds to their existing WAP solutions line, which currently includes Infinite InterChange, a WAP e-mail gateway.  WAPlite features extended support for the Wireless Application Protocol (WAP), providing users of WAP-enabled mobile phones direct access to Internet and Intranet based applications and content, such as corporate e-mail.  The combination of WAPlite and Infinite InterChange gives mobile professionals the ability to retrieve, reply, forward, delete, and create new e-mail messages from anywhere via a wireless telephone.

The WAPlite server is a software product that enables companies to provide mobile access to electronic mail and other services available on the Internet and private Intranets as well as other information systems. The WAPlite server is a powerful WAP gateway supporting WAP v1.1 applications and content. The initial version supports the recently released Nokia 7110, Ericsson MC218, Motorola Timeport, with other devices to follow.

Infinite InterChange is a Windows compatible server application that integrates seamlessly with any IMAP4, POP3, SMTP, Microsoft Mail, Microsoft Exchange, Lotus cc:Mail, Lotus Notes or Connect2 based e-mail system, or a mixed environment containing multiple protocols.  Remote wireless users connect through the WAPlite server to the InterChange server for direct access to their corporate mailbox, eliminating the synchronization problems and security risks inherent with other solutions that use a separate wireless mailbox.

"WAPlite is an excellent choice for our new WAP service,” said Johan Kaustinen, Product Expert at Vasa Läns Telefon, a Telco and GSM Operator in Finland. “The price, performance and ease of use far exceeded our expectations."

"We have 10 sites throughout Europe running Infinite software and we are evaluating the WAPlite product as an enhancement to our existing offerings and to provide additional services for our users."  said Gabriel Troostwijk  CEO of Twigger, Inc., a popular Internet e-Mail provider in the Netherlands. “Speed and performance are important, however interoperability is critical. Any WAP servers that we deploy must support phones and devices from a variety of vendors."

“The biggest advantage of the complete Infinite solution is that users can access their existing mailbox with their mobile phone, without unnecessary message forwarding or duplication,” says Brian Jackson, Managing Director of NOW Distribution in the UK.  “At the end of the day, the last thing most people need is yet another mailbox.”

"Internal e-mail access is the first WAP application that every corporate user will deploy," said Brett Warthen, CEO of Infinite Technologies. “Together, the WAPlite server and Infinite InterChange will speed the adoption of WAP technology in the corporate marketplace."

Infinite Technologies products, including WAPlite, are available in the U.K. through NOW Distribution Tel: +44 (0)181-763 0700
