Intentia claims a first with integration of WAP technology into its enterprise applications

[September 10 1999] Intentia has announced that its enterprise applications software can be accessed from a hand-held computer or a mobile phone as a result of it integrating Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) technology into its Movex system.

The WAP development is believed to be the first of its kind, and opens up a new mobile era for enterprise applications. "With WAP, users no longer have to rely on PCs to get access to the internet. And we believe the technology will make a big impact on business by encouraging a real-time 'work anywhere, anytime any way' technology environment," says Johan Berg, managing director of Intentia Research & Development (IRD)

Berg adds: "Movex customers can use any WAP-enabled devices such as hand help computers and mobile phones and get access to their company's systems. This announcement extends the 'reach' of enterprise applications to sales and service staff, and will enable them to manage their own work schedules and place orders direct into Movex. They will be able to use mobile devices to communicate direct, information such as status, service requirements, lease extensions and other information in real-time."

WAP complements or replaces the current Short Message Service (SMS) used by many applications for the distribution of information.

Editor note: Intentia is a global enterprise application software group. It is eighth largest in the world and number three in Europe. It operates in 40 countries and, with a 52 per cent increase in revenue in 1998, is the fastest growing of the leading vendors. Its products have been Year 2000 compliant since 1992 and it has achieved the terms laid down in the BASDA accreditation for advanced EMU compliance.
Intentia is the first vendor to develop its ERP system in Java. Movex Version 11 is the new release and it is available in two technologies: the Java-based NextGeneration (NextGen) and the conventional ThisGeneration (ThisGen).
