Motorola's EPOC iTAP to rival Tegic's T9

[February 15th 2000] The Lexicus Division of Motorola has announced the availability of their input technology suite—featuring iTAP™ (Intelligent Keypad Text Entry system), natural handwriting and speech recognition—on Symbian’s EPOC operating platform. The Lexicus suite provides developers and consumers with an end-to-end solutions package that offers more ways to access information, increased ease of use and enhanced compatibility with wireless devices.

Available for licensing immediately, the Lexicus suite will allow Symbian EPOC users to access their wireless devices more efficiently, since the information input methods require fewer key presses and customers use their own handwriting and voice commands to control their device. “Lexicus provides the fastest and most complete alternative input technologies available to the wireless industry,” said Craig Peddie, General Manager of the Lexicus Division of Motorola. “By offering the suite on Symbian’s EPOC system, we greatly enhance the flexibility and accuracy of information entry into devices.”

Lexicus’ input technology suite is one of the division’s many initiatives to develop systems which allow customers to enter, store, and manage information in their wireless devices more effectively. Lexicus offers its technologies to Symbian and non-Symbian developers in an effort to increase production of user-friendly wireless devices.
