Jataayu Launches ZAP2WAP Service[November 15th 2000] Jataayu Software of Bangalore, India, a subsidiary of Integra MicroSystems, has announced the launch of ZAP2 WAP service-an automatic HTML to WML conversion service.ZAP2WAP makes an analysis of the various components of a website that has to be converted to WML. The conversion, that takes place, thereafter will result in optimised content generation that can be browsed through a mobile device. According to Mahesh Jain, Managing Director, Integra MicroSystems, "The challenge behind ZAP2WAP is the constraint of the small screen devices. Essentially, anyone who needs to access the internet content, remotely on a mobile device can benefit by this technology". There are three ways of converting HTML to WML. One is the traditional approach of re-creating pages using WML ie. manually handcoding each web page. This approach is both time-consuming as well as expensive. The other is the hybrid conversion, which will result in the manual conversion of back-end programmes. The third one, which is the quickest and cheapest is the conversion of HTML on the fly. Zap2Wap would take the URL of a website from the user and provide an "expert opinion" on the complexity of the site, the effort/process that is needed to convert it to WML. The analysis will give an insight into the various components that may effect the conversion, the proportion of these "hurdles", conversion tips, general feedback for the HTML content (load time, nesting levels, links to main sites, broken links etc) and other information. ZAP2WAP conversion is based on a few user selectable parameters. These parameters (convert graphics/remove graphics, convert frames to cards, parameters representing popular devices (say Nokia 7110 limitations) etc) would help optimise content. The generated content will be stored on the site and made available for browsing as a URL. This can be browsed through a WAP device using the WAP server on the site or using a simulation of popular devices on the HTML Web itself. The user can experiment with the parameters to see how they impact the WML content. If an acceptable content is generated, it can be downloaded as a whole WML mirror of the HTML site or a CD containing site data can be requested for nominal shipping and handling charges or it can be e-mailed to the user. This web-content is retained on the site for a day. The user's parameters are stored permanently however. If required, the content can be re-generated from the original HTML. The user can modify the input HTML on the original site and re-generate the WML. This can be used any number of times. Jataayu had earlier in the year launched its Jataayu range of WAP gateway/server targetted towards the personal, corporate , portal and carrier markets and became the fourth Company in the world to so after Nokia, Ericsson, and Phone, com. The Jataayu range of WAP Servers are a highly efficient and portable solution available on a variety of UNIX platforms and Windows NT. To provide advanced encryption for the Jataayu WAP-Server and the gateway software, Jataayu has partnered with Certicom, the Canada-based encryption technology provider. Jataayu's Carrier gateway is being used by 50% of mobile subscribers. Also over 80% of WAP hits on the Indian portals is serviced by Jataayu WAP Server.
