SignalSoft & Siemens show location based WAP[February 2nd 2000] SignalSoft Corporation, a leading international software developer of Wireless Location Services, announced today that, together with Siemens Information and Communication Networks, they are showing for the first time a location-based WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) solution at the GSM World Congress. Using the location of the mobile customer to personalise data services, the service allows users on the Siemens WAP solution to access and interact with a rich variety of Internet content that is tailored to their location. To produce the location-based WAP service, Siemens is implementing SignalSoft's local.info software product into its WAP solution. local.info combines location with content to deliver personalised, real-time information to mobile users in proximity to their location. For the GSM World Congress the application translates a mobile subscriber's location to the requested business (restaurant), collects the content related to the specific service (restaurant phone number, address, menu details, pricing etc) and then delivers the location-based content to the subscriber (via WAP). The demonstration reinforces the dedication shown by SignalSoft and Siemens to pioneer new wireless services that add value to subscribers. The two companies announced their partnership four months ago in October 1999. "Siemens and SignalSoft have been working closely to develop a WAP service that is convenient and easy-to-use for mobile subscribers. This will enable network operators to quickly differentiate in the market. Location is a key element because when information is tailored to a mobile subscriber's location, it becomes relevant and personal," said David Pearce, Business Development Director EMEA of SignalSoft Corporation. "SignalSoft is delighted that Siemens chose its location-based application to make its 'Restaurant Finder' a success at the GSM World Congress." The 'Restaurant Finder' is a simple and powerful location-based service that works with Siemens' WAP phones such as the new S35i and C35i. Whether on a business trip or on holiday in a foreign city the WAP-based 'Restaurant Finder' helps the user find a restaurant by using the location of the mobile user as a strategic asset. "Partnering with SignalSoft to integrate their local.info application with our WAP gateway products fits well with our business strategies," said Siemens' Product Manager, Volker Muench. "Location is fast becoming a key component in the wireless value-added services market and combining location with WAP capabilities provides operators with new, innovative services to offer their subscribers. Siemens is excited about SignalSoft's location products and expertise to complement our data capabilities." SignalSoft's local.info product can be integrated with all data network elements including WAP gateways, Internet portals, short-message services (SMS) platforms, call broadcast systems, unified messaging platforms and wireless data service bureaux. |
