Chinese handset Maker, TCL, orders 150,000 WISMO modules

[December 22nd 2000] Wavecom has announced that TCL Mobile Communication Company Limited, a Chinese manufacturer of consumer electronics products, has placed a second order for 150,000 WISMO modules, bringing the total orders received under this contract to 350,000 modules.

TCL Mobile Communication originally ordered 200,000 WISMO2C dual-band wireless modules, which enabled TCL Mobile Communication to enter the GSM mobile telephone market for the first time. The company's first handset, the TCL999D, was introduced in the third quarter of 2000 for sale in the Chinese market. The success of this initial launch convinced TCL Mobile Communication to place the additional order for WISMO modules.

TCL Mobile Communication is also continuing to develop its product range. In March 2001, it will introduce a second version of the handset that is 5 millimetres thinner than the first and includes many additional features, such as WAP.

"We are expanding our relationship with Wavecom because we find that the WISMO module fulfills all our needs," said TCL Director Chambers Wong. "It is simple to install and encapsulates a complete GSM solution, which helps us to bring this new product to market quickly and easily."

"This once again demonstrates the success of Wavecom WISMO modules in the Chinese market," said Jean-Charles Andreani, managing director of Wavecom Asia Pacific Ltd, Wavecom's Hong Kong subsidiary. "Our product is well received by the Chinese manufacturers, who are confident about working with Wavecom to develop new products based on the WISMO technology."
