Westel and Motorola trial WAP GPRS[February 14th 2000] Motorola has once again taken its
proven capability in wireless data to the market with the implementation of a
general packet radio service (GPRS) mobile data network using the wireless That demonstration was turned into a reality for Westel 900
as Motorola NSS enabled a trial of WAP services over GPRS for the leading
Hungarian operator in under two weeks – from implementation to service. The
system solution for Westel 900 includes a complete Internet protocol (IP)-based
GPRS core network infrastructure solution using routing technology from Cisco
Systems for fast Internet access; and Motorola's GPRS WAP- enabled Timeport
7389i handsets. Motorola is implementing countrywide GPRS networks for
Telsim in Turkey, T-Mobil in Germany, RadioMobil in the Czech Republic and BT
Cellnet in the UK, and has ongoing trials with some 20 Westel 900 GSM - the market leader GSM operator in Hungary
had more than 900,000 subscribers by the end of January. Westel 900 is the
