Your advert here!!! Technical Editors: | What is MMS?MMS or Multimedia Messaging Service was created to be the natural successor to SMS (Short Message Service) - better known as text messaging. With SMS you are restricted to a mere 160 characters per message but with MMS you can create a truly multi-featured message. In essence, MMS is the mobile phone's answer to email. An MMS message is best created by taking a photo with a digital camera and then adding a few lines of text plus a sound-bite (a voice recording or a music clip). Better still you can create a mini presentation with MMS (rather like Microsoft Powerpoint) whereby the message plays music for a few seconds and shows a picture of a cake before fading into a message reading 'Happy Birthday Grandma'. Once completed an MMS message can be sent to anyone with an MMS enabled mobile phone or PDA. Better still, an MMS messages can also be forwarded on to any Internet style email mailbox. MMS natural rivals are i-mode as championed by NTT DoCoMo, sha-mail as championed by J-Phone, and EMS (Enhanced Messaging Service) as favoured by both Sony Ericsson and Siemens. The official body following MMS is the MMS-IOP (InterOperabilty Group) which is part of the Open Mobile Alliance. |
